Becoming a registered charity

Following a useful National Association of Men's Sheds workshop, the Management Committee briefed the AGM that it is now time for us to apply to become a registered charity.

We are beginning this process...

More news as we make progress

Planning Application: March 2025

We have moved a step closer to finding a permanent home over the summer in 2024.

The news in July that Durban House had been let to Raleigh, and subsequently that the Friends of Durban House group was to close, gave us a big challenge.

An alternative site was identified in the Car Park at St James Brinsley (where the Church Hall used to stand.)

Planning permission is now fully approved

Our Planning Approval is for a larger Shed than we are able to build just at the moment. In total it is about 24m long and 8m wide and contains a woodwork shop, metalwork shop, clean craft area, a place to sit and chat and some storage.

The next lines in the plan are:

to re-route the church sewer that runs underneath the new building - we are looking for a partner to do this work

dig out the foundations and lay the reinforced concrete slab - local industry are working on a plan to gift this

construct the right-hand two modules off site - supplier arranged

Good News for the New Year! 2024

We have some great news to share! In the weeks approaching Christmas, we had a couple of significant meetings so we can now begin to plan the build and installation of Eastwood Shed.

A local business, Caunton Engineering, have confirmed that they and their Supply Chain will build and install the Shed for us. This is fantastic news, we are very grateful to Caunton Engineering for this kind offer. Broxtowe Borough Council are in the process of confirming a site for us within the grounds of Durban House in Eastwood. These are two major milestones in the delivery of Eastwood Shed.

Whilst we have a few major things to finalise before we can confirm dates, it looks as though we might get the Shed installed in Quarter 2 this year. Watch this space for updates!

News 2023

Eastwood Shed has been awarded a grant of £150 by Eastwood Town Council

Paul Lake (Eastwood Shed Chair) was presented with a cheque by the outgoing mayor Councillor Ken Woodhead at a ceremony where a number of local organisations received grants.
